Going home! :)

Headed home from KGH on Monday about 10:00am. I was so glad I was able to get up and see the outside, I heal and feel so much better at home. The hospital was so wonderful and so were all the nurses. They checked on my often and helped me out in every way that they could. Ice packs for back, extra pillow for back, four pillows in hospital, layed on sides, one pillow in front, 2 in back to hold ice packs in place, and one under head ohh ok; five pillows, one under knees.

I tried to sleep on bed that night, woke up for pain meds 2 hours later, sweating from the pain, and moved to the couch, Much easier and slept so good! Life is going great! I am so excited to have done this.

It will be so hard not having Austin home but I know its for the best. I know Grandma Bleazard will take such great care of him.

Walked for first time after surgery!

I walked today and loved every minute of it. I tried to get them to let me walk on Saturday but they wouldnt, maybe to groggy and sleepy! They made a great choice! LOL :) I walked about 4 times today around the circlular Hall way.

Felt great to get in room and out of ICU...

The best part is that I walked to my regular hospital room from the ICU, and that was just the next day! I was so excited!

Once I was settled in room with stuff, Grandma McCullough and Linda Ellsworth gave me a sponge bath. A bath never felt so wonderful. I felt so good and so refreshed! Then John showed up and visited with me. Mom spent the night with me, but not after she had to get a comfy chair/bed to sleep in. John told mom she was so lucky.

Day of Surgery...

I'm writing on how everything went the day I went to surgery and went to my room in ICU.

Arrived at Hospital at 6am. Prepped for surgery, IV warm blanket, John, and stickies for heart monitor in operating room.

Went back to surgery about 8am.

Woke up at sometime that afternoon! LOL time...lol I dont know any times, I was in and out of sleeping all day. People would come in, My mom & Dan, Grandma McCullough, Mom Bleazard, and John. Grandma & Mom kept such good eye on me in ICU. The weirdest pain I can remember is Back pain, so bad, so very bad, I thought I might die. But No pain from surgery! LOL yeah I dont know how that works either. The Male Nurse I had, took such great care of me, lotion and he rubbed, rubbed, rubbed my back. Ohhh it felt so much better.

I asked if all went as planned during surgery and he said yes, and that he also had to repair a hernia. But that was all until the next day.

Sleep, wake, push button, sleep, wake push button.... etc... (button was morphine(pain meds)).

John slept in ICU with me that night. In two chairs. He is so loving... poor guy was so sore and so uncomfortable! What a wonderful husband he is! And they said no one could stay the night with me... AHAHAHAHA He did!

It Happens Day After Tomorrow! YAHOO!

Wow, day after tomorrow I will be on my way to being a healthier and more energetic Mama(as Austin now says), wife, friend, and family member! I am so excited and cannot wait to begin this new journey.

Lets begin by telling you my Pre-op on Tuesday June 24th, 2008 went wonderful, Surgery is still scheduled for this friday, June 27th at 7:30am, check-in at 6:30am. I signed some paper work and got all Dr.'s paid and hospital paid :) Yahoo! That was the hard part right? Letting go of that much money? LOL All worth it and I know it! I will live so much longer.

Continued pre-op... I had my EKG and Heart Ecko and blood work and they said I was normal... that is great to hear :) LOL. That was it for pre-op.

While I was at Dr. Office for pre-op, I got to meet a lady that had just had her surgery 5 days prior. She was doing wonderful, she said she had a wonderful experience at KGH and loved how she was treated. Her pain was minimal to none. She looked great, really so good. I got to see her scar and it was there, but not as bad as I would have thought. I am really ready for this and I hope all of my family and friends are so supportive of me having this done. I am so extremely excited!! I dont think I have ever wanted anything more, really!!!!

I will say though I am so blessed to have a wonderful husband and wonderful boys! They treat me so good. John treats me like a Queen and the boys treat me like a princess mommy! I love all my inlaws and my family. They all have been so supportive. My church friends are such dear close friends and I wouldnt trade any of them for anything. I love my life and the blessings Heavenly Father has blessed me with. I love My Heavenly Father so much and I love the life he has given me from Birth and for the love he has always shown me for even when I didnt know he was there!

I would also love comments from EVERYONE! I love hearing back to see if anyone is reading what I write. I'll keep everyone updated if they want, just let me know :)

16 More Days...

Well now that time seems to be flying by, I am getting so much more excited! I cannot wait for my life to really begin, I will have energy and a love for exercise. I love it now but my body just does not let me keep up. My goal is to be able to run, run and run some more. I have a big passion for running! I want to be able to do the 5K's and 10K's and such!!!! I don't have to win at doing the races, I just want to be able to finish the races. So I have been maintaining my weight since I went to the Dr. I have been doing between 8,000 and 10,000 steps a day. Keeping up with the house gets all those in. My body still thinks its spring cleaning, or organizing summer LOL. I will still keep all updated on my progress and what will be going on in the upcoming weeks before I go to surgery.

So far Pre-op is on June 24th @ 9:45am at KGH hospital for the EKG and the Heart Echo and the blood work. Then I head over to Dr. Heap's office and get all paperwork signed and Dr.'s and hospital paid. Then I go back to KGH to get registered for surgery on the 27th. So that is all I know for now and if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask, I'm excited and will tell you all about it! BleazardFamily@gmail.com or if you know my phone number you can call me!

Have a great Week and weekend!

A little bit about the surgery...

Its called "Dr. Adrian Heap's Mini Switch or Vertical Subtotal Gastrectomy with 8 cm Silastic Ring Placement With Partial Selective Small Bowel Resection with Omentectomy." YEAH I prefer Mini switch too! LOL

1. Reseting the majority of the stomach in a longitudinal fashion as in the duodenal switch procedure to leave a stomach capacity of 4-5 ounces but otherwise leaving the stomach functioning normally with an intact pyloric valve.
2. Placement of a wide 8 cm Silastic ring between the proximal and middle third of the resected stomach to prevent fast eating and gulping of food but which you can eat any food you wish as long as you do it slowly and chew well.
3. Small intestine is shortened to 400cm total retaining approx. 100cm of the duodenum and poximal jejunum and 300cm of distal small bowel. (normal length is 600cm to 1000cm)
4. A large fatty apron that is inside your abdomen is removed. This allows abdominal decompression, removes a large fat storage argan and cuts down on rhe risk of post-operative adhesions. This apron can weigh from 2-10 pounds(Wonderful huh. LOL)!

Well that is all for now! But I thought I would let everyone know what they do! Enjoy your weeks, I know I want mine to go by fast so that this day will come sooner then later!

I forgot to add the most important part..

Dr. Heap said that after 6 weeks of the surgery. John and I can get pregnant. That is the most wonderful news I have also heard in a long time. He said he encourages it because the baby will actually help eat the fat. Weird but ok. LOL I can also start swimming just 2 weeks after surgery. Its hope that I will feel a lot better by then. I am so excited I can hardly stand it. Only 26 days till surgery! Yahoo!

My pre-op is on May 24th starting at 9:45am. I first go to KGH for blood work and EKG. Then I go back to Dr. Heaps office in Richland and do my pre-op apt with him. Then I go back to hospital to register and get all the rest done that I need to before surgery. Then I wont have to do anything until the day before surgery, I heard that I have to go on clear liquids to help the surgery go smoother. Otherwise surgery is at 7:30am on May 27th. I have to be there at 6am for prep.

(Also the reason for the EKG is that Dr. Heap has had one mortality in 30 years, it wasnt due to his surgery, 5 days after surgery the ladys had problems with her heart and died. So he does the EKG so that wont happen again. PHEWWW huh)
